ISIS in terms of war is America’s main threat at the moment and President-elect refuses to back down! Will current Defense Secretary’s visit send the wrong message?

According to Fox News– U.S. Defense Secretary Ash Carter has arrived in Baghdad to meet with American commanders and Iraqi leaders and to assess progress in the fight to retake the northern city of Mosul from the Islamic State group.

The unannounced visit on Sunday came as Iraqi security forces have been slowed in their nearly two-month-old offensive against ISIS, which has occupied Mosul for more than two years.

Carter flew into Baghdad aboard a military cargo plane. He was scheduled to meet with Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi as well as top U.S. and coalition commanders.

Ash Carter’s surprise visit to a military airfield near Mosul on Sunday makes him the highest-ranking US official to visit the outskirts of the city where Iraqi troops are waging an intense fight with ISIS.

Qayyarah West, known as Q West, is home to US military advisers and is the closest position of US troops to the Mosul offensive.
A senior US defense official described the base as the “springboard for the campaign on Mosul.”
Hundreds of US military advisers are based at Q West, where they are assisting the advance of Iraqi troops. The base is also where the Iraqi government exerts command over the forces participating in the Mosul operation.
U.S Air Forces Central Command–  “The United States’ presence … demonstrates to the world that America is and will remain committed to a sovereign and secure Afghanistan,” he continued.

During his tour of the installation, Carter expressed his sadness at the loss of service members and contractors here after a suicide bombing in November and took the opportunity to thank the medical professionals who cared for the casualties following the incident.
